NEW ASHRAE FELLOW ELEVATED AT THE JAN 2006 MEETING

George N. Walton

George Walton works in the Building Physics Division, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, Md. He is considered a leading developer of building simulation software, contributing to modeling building energy, airflow and indoor air quality. He created the first simulation program that simultaneously calculates heat loads and airflows in multi-zone buildings. The thermal analysis research program (TARP) allowed considerations of the interactions between energy and airflow that up until that time could not be taken into account. The algorithms contained in TARP were extended into a model known as CONTAM. CONTAM has become the multi-zone airflow and IAQ model of choice throughout the world. It has been used to evaluate building vulnerability to biochemical attacks.
