NEW ASHRAE FELLOW ELEVATED AT THE JAN 2006 MEETING

Carl C. Hiller, Ph.D., P.E.

Carl Hiller is president, Applied Energy Technology Co., Davis, Calif. While pursuing his doctorate, Hiller developed the first publicly available detailed heat pump air-conditioner computer simulation model. This model was incorporated into the Oak Ridge National Laboratory heat pump model. He developed the first detailed water heating computer simulation model, WATSIM, and its simpler version, WATSMPL, intended for mass distribution. His innovative designs include residential, single package dual-fuel heat pumps, two-speed water/ground source heat pumps with desuperheaters, residential heat pump water heaters and engine driven pumps. Hiller developed three versions of an improved residential heat pump water heater having smaller size, lower cost, higher efficiency and easier installation than previously available units. He holds several patents.
