College Of Fellows
Dear ASHRAE Fellow,
You have been recognized by ASHRAE as being in the top 1% of the engineers in the HVAC&R industry. This is a most exclusive club, more exclusive even than being an Eagle Scout as there are around 5% of Scouts with that honor. It is payback time for receiving this honor!
Members of this club have given much through their contributions to "our" industry. However we cannot rest on our past laurels, we must not only think about the future of the industry, we must be doing something about insuring it! The College of Fellows is taking some important steps toward that end.
One of our programs, to make people aware that differing opinions and discussion is good, is sponsoring debates among Fellows at ASHRAE technical programs on topics that are both fun and informative.
A more recent program is our "Travel Awards" program that sponsors an upcoming PhD or PhD candidate who is planning on making a career teaching in our industry. The first award was granted to Lauren M. Ronsse who attended the 2011 Summer meeting in Montreal and will be attending the 2012 Winter meeting in Chicago. This award carries a monetary stipend to help defray the cost of travel to the meetings and – more importantly – provides one or more Fellows to mentor the recipient at the meetings and introduce them to the committees in the Society. You can read her report at the end of this letter. A second person has already been selected.
A third program that we are starting is to be sure that ALL persons who deserve the Fellow Recognition receive the honor. To that end, we need your help. If you know of anyone whom you believe deserves to be recognized, we not only want to know about it, we want you to become actively involved in seeing that they receive the deserved recognition.
We need YOU to be a part of our programs. If you are not already a member of the College of Fellows, please visit our website at http://www.ashraecof.org and state that you wish to be a member of the ASHRAE College of Fellows. You may also reply to this email stating you wish to become a member and we will see that it happens.
Please join us at our College of Fellows bi-annual meeting on Sunday at 10:00 AM at the Winter and Summer meetings.

We need your help this year in reviewing the 2011 ASHRAE Handbook - HVAC-Applications. Any specialized knowledge you have in HVAC applications can help ASHRAE maintain its well-deserved reputation as the “Standard of the Industry”. Your local ASHRAE Chapter will receive Presidential Award of Excellence (PAOE) points for every Chapter you agree to review. When you volunteer, we will email you an ASHRAE HANDBOOK CHAPTER REVIEW FORM. This template will speed your examination of the text and figures as well as guide you in your suggestions for chapter improvement.
