Dear ASHRAE Fellow:

The ASHRAE Technical Activities Committee, with the support of the Handbook Committee, has initiated a program to improve the ASHRAE Handbooks. The goal is to make the Handbooks better serve the needs of ASHRAE members, especially those who use them on a day-to day basis as part of their jobs as engineers. TAC has asked the College of Fellows to support this effort, the College has agreed, and I have committed to making this a priority project for the College during my presidential term.

Now I am asking for your help. Specifically, I am asking you to agree to review at least one Handbook Chapter during this next year. Before you say no, let me explain that we are not asking you to proofread, edit or rewrite text. What we do want is your judgment on the value of the material to the average ASHRAE user and your suggestions as to how it could be improved.

Although you may choose any chapter you wish, TAC is especially interested in getting input on the following chapters:

1.

2.

Quite naturally, I expect most Fellows will select chapters in their areas of expertise. I shall hasten to add, however, that expertise is not an essential requirement for this job. Most important is the judgment and experience of Fellows as the industry’s top engineers.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are willing to participate in this project and which chapter or chapters you would like to review. I’m looking forward to your reply.

                                                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                                                     Donald G. Rich, President
