Notes from the President
ASHRAE College of Fellows
I invite the new ASHRAE Fellows to attend the meeting of the College in Dallas. There’re jobs waiting for you. I would also like to thank our current College Officers for their support: Bill Coad, President Elect; Bill Bahnfleth, Treasurer and Richard Rooley, Secretary.
In Dallas we will get updates on all CoF activities during our regular meeting that starts at 10 AM Sunday. All Fellows are invited to this general meeting.
One of the key discussions will be on ASHRAE Speakers Bureau Development. This effort, started by the College of Fellows, has expanded and the CTTC Committee has a subcommittee working on it. However, progress is slow. One question for the College is whether we should we continue our efforts and merge them later or wait until their program is underway. I would be interested in whether we should do a survey of Follows to learn which Fellows do presentations to ASHRAE members and the general public.
We also should discuss the status of support requests for
the Solar Decathlon and the Clinton Initiative. How many Fellows are active on
these projects?
A third discussion area is the concept of a Mentoring Program by ASHRAE Fellows.
This is a subject that has been on the table for several years. George Sestak
took on this project in Quebec and put his thoughts together. (See below).
Please review them so we can discuss this program in Dallas. Is this a program
we are willing to support? I thank George for leading this effort.
ASHRAE HQ switched to a new computer system in October. If you have problems signing on, contact headquarters, our College Webmaster or me. We can help.
Our College Website is up-to-date as always. You can view it at www.ashraecof.org.

OBJECTIVE:
To provide guidance to the members of the College of Fellows regarding mentoring and the activities that constitute mentoring.
PROGRAM:
Mentoring activities can take the form of any of the following:
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The amount of mentoring activity is to be accounted for by the following method:
……………or do we need to tabulate our involvement.
PROCEDURE:
This is the most difficult section. How do we make ourselves available? How do we develop a database of opportunities?
(The path forward is………………?)

Service Opportunities
Only Fellows Need Apply
1. Handbook Reviewers – Fellows have been asked to review chapters of the Refrigeration Handbook, and provide comments which will be sent to the assigned Technical Committee responsible for each chapter. Any Fellow may review any chapter, and the first three reviews provided will earn 25 PAOE points for each Chapter reviewed. Handbook chapters for which reviews have been promised may be viewed at the College of Fellows Website: www.ashraecof.org. Please note that the reviews are due by April 15, 2007. As of this writing, several reviews have been received.
2. Fellows are still needed as resources for the newly-launched eLearning system (see ASHRAE Insights, April 2006. Volunteers will be needed (a small stipend will be provided) as Subject Matter Experts to respond to inquiries from purchasers of the eLearning materials. The first three subjects will be psychrometrics, fan selection, and duct layout. The eLearning system will be managed by Bruce Kimball of ASHRAE staff. He expects that few inquiries will be made, but he requests a rapid turnaround of 2-3 days following receipt of the inquiry. If you are willing to assist in this valuable service, especially directed to young engineers, please advise Bruce via e-mail: bkimball@ashrae.org.
